How you learn

Work placement

As part of the Work Experience route offer, you are able to undertake a 12 month industry placement in your second year.

Field trips

The course includes an international field trip, placing you in a challenging and unfamiliar environment where you complete a development project. On this task, you work with students from across related subjects to increase understanding of the other roles in the profession that interact on a day-to-day basis and how the role of a quantity surveyor fits in with these roles. It also develops the skills and knowledge that are essential to becoming an effective professional practitioner. These have previously taken place in Shanghai and Toronto, with assistance from international surveying firms.

All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive.

Areas studied on the course include economics in relation to the construction industry, construction law and dispute resolution methods, measurement of construction works, and building technology and sustainability. You study and appraise the financial management and cost planning of projects, the procurement methods used in the industry and gain knowledge to be able to advise and evaluate on the contract administration requirements and choices for a wide range of different projects.
